Are Dubia Roaches Healthy?
Dubia Roaches (Blaptica dubia; Tropical Spotted Roach) is one of the healthiest feeder insects that you can use to boost your pets healthy diet. Here's a few things to consider:
High protein content: Dubia Roaches are rich in protein, which is essential for the growth and maintenance of reptiles and other pets. In fact, they have a higher protein content than many other feeder insects, such as crickets or mealworms.
Low in fat: Dubia Roaches have a low-fat content, which makes them a healthy option for pets that require a high protein diet without adding excess fat.
Calcium-rich: Dubia Roaches are also high in calcium, which is important for the development of strong bones and overall health in pets, especially reptiles.
Easy to digest: The soft exoskeleton of Dubia Roaches makes them easy to digest, which is especially beneficial for pets with sensitive digestive systems.
Low risk of transmitting diseases: Dubia Roaches are less likely to transmit diseases or parasites to pets than other feeder insects, such as crickets or mealworms, due to their lower risk of carrying pathogens.
How do I care for Dubia Roaches between feedings?
Caring for Dubia Roaches while you keep them for pet feeders in between orders is easy. Here is a few steps:
Find/buy a small plastic enclosure. Preferably smooth plastic so the dubia roaches cannot climb, and opaque in color because the dubia roaches like darkness.
Use the egg crate that we conveniently ship with each order and put that, with the dubia roaches, in the enclosure.
Provide food and water. Food can be vegetables, fruits, carb rich, etc. The water needs to be provided on a sponge, with water crystals, or in a way that the dubia roach can drink without drowning.
Keep the enclosure in a warm dark place. This is the preferred environment for the dubia roach.
- Clean out the enclosure after the feeders have been given as a tasty treat to your pet.
